After the media coverage, we were approached by a legal and PR consultant who advised us that we could take legal action, should we wish to. We both instinctively knew that we had to do something. This was far greater than a wedding venue, or hurt feelings.
This was confirmed when we discovered that the same thing happened to a same-sex couple in 2017 at the same venue! We also had people sharing stories of similar experiences of injustice. We are all worthy of equal human rights. What happened to us is but one example of the continued lived reality of unfair discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.
Our intention is to play our part in ensuring such prejudice and unfair discrimination do not go unchallenged. As a result, we have decided to take legal action.
The #samelove campaign was created to spread awareness and raise funds for our legal case, which you can read more about here. Same Love was chosen not only to validate and recognise the love shared between same-sex couples such as ourselves, but also to highlight that love is love, and all humans deserve to love and be loved without discrimination, fear or prejudice. The #samelove website and social media accounts were created to keep everyone updated, and so that they may continue to support us as we embark on this legal journey.
OUR FAVOURITE QUOTES
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same but that’s not important
No freedom til we’re equal
Damn right I support it
